To partition disk reasonably

Partitioning disk is necessary for us. And partitioning disk reasonably will benefit us in files management and usage. It is really regrettable if you have partition plan but do not know how to partition disk. So we will learn how to partition disk reasonably.

1. Use system disk to partition hard disk
In the process of installing Windows with system disk in a new hard disk, it shows the unallocated space of the new disk on the screen when we choose the partition in which the system is installed. Operate according to the detailed prompts. Firstly, create primary partition by allocating the unallocated space. Then input a value in textbox to set the size of primary partition (if you don’t input any value and directly click”Next”, all unallocated space are distributed to primary partition). After creating the primary partition, we can distribute the left unallocated to the extended partition. Repeat the above operations and divide the extend partition into logical partitions such as D:, E:, F:. When we set partition, we should consider whether partition size is reasonable first of all, for reasonable partition can not only facilitate file management, but also improves operation efficiency and response speed. The partition applied to store music, movies and work files can be made a little larger. And file system should be considered, too. If you like DVD and prefer to edit videos, you’d better set the corresponding partition as NTFS, for NTFS can support files more than 4GB. It is superior to FAT32 in processing large files.
This partitioning method is suitable for new hard disk. We only need to resize partitions if the disk has been partitioned. But this method will lead to data loss because we need to delete the partition that will be resized and then reset its size when creating new partition. In this situation, we can use the second method to partition disk.

2. Use the third party disk management tool to partition disk without data loss.
Many times we begin to partition a new disk without any plan. When using it, we find that some partitions are too small while others are too large. At this time, we could use Windows built-in disk management tool to resize partition. Firstly, we need to back up data in these partitions and then delete them. After that, we can merge them into one partition or create new partitions with appropriate capacity. What will you do if the partitions are not adjacent or you can not find suitable partition for data backup, or you need to delete the system partition? Will you repartition the whole disk or reinstall system? Actually, it is not as complicated as you imagine. We can use MiniTool Partition Wizard to solve this problem, because this software can directly merge adjacent partitions and resize partition at liberty. For example, if we want to extend system partition C:, but the unallocated partition is not adjacent to C:, we can use this software to settle this situation with MiniTool Partition Wizard. If there is no unallocated partition, we can divide it from other partition and merge it to partition C: by using MiniTool Partition Wizard.

We can extend partition C: by using MiniTool Partition Wizard. Only two operations are needed. Compared with the first method of using Windows built-in disk management tool, the second way is simple and convenient and it can guarantee data security. These two methods can both help us realize partition management.
